Federal Mediators Now Involved in NHL Lockout: Hope or Nope?

Starting today, the NHL and NHL Players Association will meet with federal mediators in Washington to see if they can find any way to resolve their labor dispute before the entire season is lost. On its face, the fact that federal mediators are now involved is a slight win for fans because less than a month ago, the owners refused to do even that. So at least they’re now willing to sit down with a third party. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that the mediation effort is off to a bad start, as one of the three men assigned to work with both parties was removed almost as quickly as he was named after his Twitter account was found to have racist tweets, which he claimed were hacked. (Heard that before…)

This Sports Illustrated writer is calling the lockout a “farce” at this point. Hard to disagree…
