Fan Hall of Fame: Maverick the Ace

Our latest inductee to the Fan Hall of Fame may be small, but he's as tough as they come.

6-year-old Maverick Schutte has undergone more than 30 surgeries due to a congenital heart defect. But that hasn't stopped him from becoming pretty much the world's biggest Red Sox fan — all the way from his hometown of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Recently, Maverick experienced two, amazing, baseball-filled weeks thanks to his favorite player, David Ortiz, and the Red Sox organization. It started with Ortiz promising to hit a home run for Maverick — and then promptly delivering on that promise.

It continued a few days later, when Maverick traveled to Fenway Park and got to meet Big Papi, hang out with the rest of the Red Sox players, and even throw out the first pitch!

NESN has lots of photos from Maverick's big day, and MLB put together a video documenting his amazing two weeks with the team and the players he loves.

Please join all of us in high-fiving Maverick and congratulating him on being a Hall of Fame fan! Share his story on Facebook.
